This is so timely - I am a daily painter with...WOW! This is so timely - I am a daily painter with 8 years under my belt. I did mostly animal portraiture and about 18 mos ago really lost my creative mojo. I felt like what I was doing had become trite, had been done 100xs before in my own portfolio, and wanted to spread my wings. I just didn't know how - having focused so long on painting for hire, I had to retrain myself to embrace and paint things that were part of my own personal narrative. Whether that was a shift in subject matter altogether, changing up my palette choices, the scale in which I was working, or just working in my journal. I have found that painting what I love and feel and am currently experiencing (even if I veil it somehow) has enabled me to fall back in love with the process and itch to pick up my brush every day.
