Workshop Description
Painting in Oil from Still Life set-ups, Deborah Elmquist will guide each student to a deeper understanding of tonal relationships and color harmonies.  Creating a sense of space and mood through brushwork and varied edges will be emphasized.  Students will also strengthen their observational skills through a better understanding of the visual language of painting, and the practice of seeing form and shape to create good artistic design.

Time will be set aside to discuss issues of particular concern of each student, and to share nuts-and-bolts information relating to materials and methods. The student-teacher ratio is limited to a one-to-ten maximum allowing for individual attention and instruction.  Short demonstrations and brief concept "lectures" will be provided insuring that there will be an abundance of student time to paint.

Register Today! Standby registration will be accepted when the workshop is full in case of cancellations. A Minimum enrollment of five students is required - bring a friend.

*Price includes a continental breakfast and lunch each workshop day, and the Workshop Goodie Packet for all registered students, plus limited local only transportation - see below for details.

Read What Students' Say About My Classes!

While only having been attending oil painting classes with Debbie for a month now, I have already learned so much more in these few session than I ever did at the community college.  Debbie's level of expertise in both her craft and in her teaching is obvious from the start. Debbie generously shares her wealth of knowledge and years of experience with her students. She simplifies the fundamentals of painting while at the same time showing you what can be done in order to achieve the goal you are after.  The one-on-one attention and painting demonstrations by Debbie are invaluable, not to mention the examples of her own work that she presents.  She is truly an inspiration to me and an excellent value for my money and my time. I am thrilled and honored to be one of her students! ~ Rahna Summerlin, Port Orange, Florida

Deborah Elmquist is a very patient art teacher; she has helped me learn and grow as an artist by leading the way. When I started my classes one year ago I was a very entry level beginner. To date, I've painted and explored Portraiture, Seascapes, and Still Life art styles. In her relaxed studio we've had many pleasant conversations on art theory, styles, and art history while working on our canvases. I would highly recommend her classes to anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of traditional oil painting. Debbie helped me bridge the gap between my professional photography and digital painting in the computer, and provided many hours of what I would call 'therapeutic creativity'. ~ Pam Cooper, Ormond Beach, Florida
